As of the 18th of January, 2017, the nominations are officially closed! A thanks to those who participated! Results will be in shortly.
Hey everyone, Man-In-Crowd-4 here. Once again, it's the start of a new year, and as always we like to take this chance to look back on the best of the group over the year just gone by. This year is no different! If there's been someone this year who you've just been dying to see get that bit more recognition for their hard work, now is- well, any time is the time. But this is a particularly good one. Let's go!
Once again voting takes place in a series of categories as given below. A story can be nominated for more than one category:
Best Spinoff of 2016: Your favorite spinoff that you’ve read this year!
Best Concept: The story that had the most unique plot, or presented itself in a different way from the other spinoffs (not necessarily a comic).
Best Oneshot: Your favorite spinoff that is a self-contained work.
Best Slow Updated/Hiatus’ed Story: Your favorite spinoff that has long waiting times between chapter uploads. (Don’t vote for Brandon’s Original Series here. These awards are for spinoffs, not the real thing!)
Best Action Sequence: The spinoff that had that one really cool moment where the guy did the thing.
Most Believable Characters: The spinoff that made you care about and relate with the characters the most.
Most Emotional: The spinoff that made you feel. Anger, sadness, disgust, relief, etc.
Biggest Surprise: The spinoff that caught you off guard the most.
Funniest Story: The spinoff that made you laugh the most.
Weirdest Story: The spinoff with the strangest premise/ideas.
Most Horrific: The spinoff that made you scared.
Best Non-Story: Something submitted to the group that isn’t a written story, but it’s still really, really good.
Most Helpful Admin: The admin that you feel has helped either you or the group the most this year.
Most Helpful Member: The member that you feel has helped either you or the group the most this year.
(For the Most Helpful Admin/Member awards, vote for someone based on stuff they've done for the group this year, rather than any writing/drawing/etc.)
The story in question has to have been submitted/updated at some point in 2016, thoughotherwise Dragon Island and Story of Cubone would win every round in every year. Check recent updates to the group gallery if there's something that you remember was really good but aren't sure whether it came out this year or not.
However, we're going to change the voting system up this year a little, because we realised the old one wasn't quite perfect. For one thing, it could lead to a lot of awkward tie-breaks where six people got one vote each, and while that is brilliant in one way it's also not very conclusive as, you know, an award. The other main thing was that we also realised that simply counting who got the most votes meant it could very easilya phrase that here means 'We realised that this has already happened for a fact' be turned into a popularity contest of who can drum up the most of their mates. And that's not what this event is meant to be about (insert joke about 'Democracy is not optional').
So instead this year we're changing it a little, and incorporating in a way the method used back in Brandon's Top Five in 2014. The new system is: For each category, nominate the stories that you think are worthy of receiving the award this year in the comment box below. Once nominations close, the admins will deliberate the nominated stories, do a little Writing Feature-esque internal critique of them and come back with the result for the winner this year.
This system is experimental, and we are well aware that this system is not perfect either. But we think it's a bit closer, since it lets us cut down on various undesirable shenanigans. We will be open with the basis of our decisions, but more importantly - we will only choose between the ones that are nominated by you guys for each one. Keep in mind, nominating your own stories will result in immediate disqualification. This is a way for people to draw attention to stories they felt were notable and/or worth a look, not a popularity contest.
So, uh, if you vote in the comments below, we're going to just assume you've read the above paragraph and know what the system for this year is. Tl;dr with caution, kids.
Nominations will close at 11:59 pm EST on January 17th (so two weeks, as of the day this was posted). Send us your nominations, and the winners will be declared shortly afterwards. Thank you for reading, and let's get this event underway!

April 2020 Pokeumans Contest: Peace in Our Time.
Hello, Pokeuman writers of all shapes, sizes and affinities! Even though we’re at the end of April, 2020 is a new year full of… well, it’s a year. I think we can all agree on that. At any rate, it is high time we do a new contest. This time, it shall be run by me, Indiscriminate Justice. Formatting will be the same as it always was: contest has a theme, participants write an entry based on that theme, and the judges pick a winner.
The theme for this round will be, as the title hints at:
Peace between the Pokeumans and Pokextinction.
Any entry must have this th
The group has been semi-reopened
You guys can start resubmitting stories to the group. However I am the sole admin now and will be approving them myself. I'm still trying to figure out if we're gonna stay here on DA or move to a different site but I appreciate those who've stuck with us through this.
Writing Feature #26
It’s been a while since we had one of these, and let’s get back to traction with it while we can. This one writing feature will be different from some I have made in the past. This story might be one of the most flawed stories I have taking so far in this writing feature but it’s a story that shows interesting ideas in both it’s good and it’s bad, making it worthy of a learning experience regardless of where you look for.

Welp, I'm doing this mostly as a kick-in-the-ass reminder that I should read more Pokeuman spinoffs - because, welp, I don't know or remember enough about what went into the gallery this year to vote things like Best Spinoff.
With that aside, some nominations in easier categories:
Best Oneshot: I found myself at least reading a lot of more bite-sized one-shot stories and finding them more original than typical Clone Story epics - so this was a toughie for me. Lots of goodies. I'd say it's gotta go to A Correspondence by Catequin for an emotional ride and exploring an underrated aspect of Pokeumans. Honourable mention goes to Requiem to a Pizza for its tongue-in-cheek insight - also by Catequin, why am I not surprised. A good author and admin, by the looks of the comments section .
Best non-story: Not a lot of these this year. Quite disappoint that How To Survive a Pokeumans Spinoff by Man-in-crowd-4 was published just a mere 6 days before 2016, because damn I would've nominated that straight off the bat. With that aside, gotta nominate The French Edition of "The Newcomer's Dictionary to Pokeumans" (Un dictionnaire pour les Pokeumains novices) - yeah, I was the original author, but props to PauLucario for stepping up, compiling and establish a French vocabulary for describing a lot of Pokeumans terms.
Now to actually read, comment, and pay attention to the gallery for once!
